The Printed circuit board (PCB) forms the basis for any circuit in the electronic devices that we use in our day to day life. Many layers are there in a printed circuit board where these layers are separated by a substrate, conductive layer, and insulation. The conductive layers are of copper. Laser or tungsten carbide drill is used to punch in holes in these layers. These holes are called ‘vias’. Plating is done on the areas where the components are to be placed and then screen printing process is used to print the text needed on the printed circuit board. Then the process of populating, where the components are attached to the board is done. PCBs are used in any application where there is a need for the electronic device and all the electronic devices are made with these PCBs.

Some of the devices that are practically flexible need a circuit board that is flexible. That is where the flexible circuit boards come in. in the flexible PCBs the substrate is made of polyimide and PEEK film which are flexible and which can be used to mount the components as in the ordinary PCB. The flexible PCBs can change the shape when they are being used because of the flexible substrate. Flexible circuit boards find their use in electronic devices like folding cell phones, cameras, and rockets and satellites.
